When I was pregnant with my fifth child, I was a little apprehensive about the post partum recovery stage.  I had suffered from post partum depression (PPD) after my first and third baby and it had gone undiagnosed. A friend of mine who had similar problems turned me on to a NaproTechnology (NaPro) doctor.  After some testing, this doctor pointed out that my progesterone levels were much lower than normal levels in pregnant women.  This was the major underlying cause for my depression.

Even though I had always worked with midwives who are known to be pretty holistic, nobody had told me that such tests were available or that there was help.

The doctor prescribed a non-synthetic progesterone during the last stages of my pregnancy and also to be taken immediately after birth as a preventative measure. Everything turned out great!

Through NaPro, I have learned to become an informed decision maker in my own reproductive health. Today, NaproTechnology helps me monitor premenstrual syndrome (PMS) as I work alongside my doctor.
Too many women are suffering silently with PPD and PMS. Either they are ignorant to the help available to them through Dr Hilger’s research or, worse, misinformed or ignored by doctors who are ignorant of NaproTechnology. Too often, if our PPD is not severe, our plight is ignored or we are told it’s just a normal part of  parenting a newborn. Sometimes  hormonal depression is treated incorrectly with antidepressants that don’t address the hormonal aspect of the problem. Families are suffering because of the lack of knowledgeable medicine like NaproTechnology. There needs to be reform. I am so thankful that I was one of the lucky ones.
